Professore di lettere, giornalista, storico, partecipò attivamente alla Resistenza con le formazioni G. L. Collaborò a Italia libera e a Giustizia e Libertà. Nel 1947 entrò a La Stampa, di cui divenne vicedirettore. Colpito dai terroristi, morì dopo un’agonia di 13 giorni. E’ una delle figure più significative di quella che Spadolini ha definito L’Italia della ragione, per il suo coraggioso impegno contro la barbarie a difesa della libertà.
He was professor of literature, journalist, historian. He was active in the Italian resistance with the G. L. formations. He contributed to Italia libera and Giustizia e Libertà. In 1947 he began working at La Stampa and became deputy editor. Hit by the terrorists, he died after a 13-days agony. He is one of the most significant figures of what Spadolini called the Italy of reason, for his courageous commitment against barbarity, in defence of freedom.
